Brazilian Pre-War Series? Still being made? |

Does anyone here know for sure if the 260, 263, 280 & 283 are still being made or is that stock of Braz history? They are still listed at Saga's site,
but they usually are pretty slow changing info there.

Dave, although I don't have a definitive answer to your question, I'll make an educated guess that whatever remains of the Braz models will be the last
of them. With the price having skyrocketed, I doubt that they are a fast mover. Maury might be able to get some horse's mouth info on your question,
though.
You forget it and I'll forget it, but I'll remember it, and don't you forget it!

They are still listed in the Saga catalogue but with the usual "Limited Quanity" disclaimer. Can't see them moving too quickly unless you really
want a Braz and are willing to pay the big bucks for it.

Are they worth the extra price? Ive read that it is a matter of cosmetics, and that there is no sonic difference with EIR. Anybody know for sure?

It is IMHO only that braz is not worth the upcharge over EIR. It is also MHO that braz has a slightly more bell like sound associated with it. To describe it
inversely IMO, EIR tends to have stronger bass overtones and not as clear or, a better word would be "as strong" in the high frequencies as braz can
be.
With that said however, much depends on how the guitar is put together. I've heard braz with strong heavy low frequencies that I associate with EIR more frequently and I've also heard EIR with distinct strong higher frequencies that I associate with braz builds. When I had my Beneteau built in '85, it was made with EIR but the guitar that Marc built just before mine was made with braz. The difference between the two was, as I described above. If it were 1985 and I had it to do again, I probably would have chosen braz rather than EIR as then, the price difference was not so dramatic as it would be today. Not for financial reasons but only because I like to think that 20+ years later, a braz guitar would not be quite as bassy as the EIR model has developed into. With all that said, my friend purchased a limited edition HD-28 braz around the same time as my Beneteau was built. If I'm playing either guitar and he is listening to them blind, he cannot tell which one I am playing. |
