Re Taylor vs Stanford neck, I posted this a little while ago:


For me (the seemingly sole Taylor representative over here I have an 810ce and a 510) the Taylor neck is the gold standard. It fits my stubby fingers just right. I found the Stanford to be feeling just slightly more "cramped" for me. I'm not sure if the numbers would bear that out, but I know for a fact that while the neck has a similar profile to the Taylor, the Stanford neck is slightly thicker. I know this because I have a Shubb capo and when I go from my Taylor to the Stanford, I have to open it up slightly. That may be why the Stanford feels a little more cramped. In thinking about it, I'm not sure it's actually cramped but actually a tiny bit more in my palm, leaving a tiny bit less of my stubby fingers to fret notes cleanly. So I adjust slightly and have no problem. The bottom line is that if you like the Taylor neck, you will like the Stanford neck. If you want something that feels like a 1 11/16" neck, you will not like the Stanford. In general it seems that players of all preferences like the Stanford neck (but that may be because devout 1 11/16" advocates avoid them).

AND the rest of the story is that I had the Stanford's action lowered a tad and now it no longer feels cramped at all. The Taylor neck is still the gold standard for me but I'm pretty picky and I really like the Stanford neck. I will look closer tonight but have never felt that my Stanford has any V at all in the neck. The adjustment I make to my Shubb is just about one revolution, not much at all. While there have been a few who did not like the Stanford neck, I would be curious to see if any of those players like 1 3/4" nut widths. I think in each case the player went to a more narrow nut NOT a different 1 3/4" neck.
